SFF DREAMS
Visions of Models that we would like to build ...
Below are some pictures and plans for models
that we also would like to build -- but which we have not yet done the detailed design
or the formal description in a common format.
Geometrical Models
"Tabby2 -- with and without a Frame"
A schematic representation of the "Tabby" weaving pattern.
This is an exercise in design and as a test case for machining feature recognition.
Need to remove anti-parallel coinciding surfaces.
"Cubist Chinese Button Knot"
A rectilinear, tight version of this famous knot.
Need to remove anti-parallel coinciding surfaces.
"Arabic Icosahedron"
Twenty interlocking clover leaves on the surface of an icosahedron.
Need to test for intersections and smooth out the clover leaves.
"Boy's Surface"
A famous finite model of the projective plane.
Need to find a nice and regular tessellation with 3-fold symmetry.
"Shell"
An experiment from a new generator.
"Moebius3"
This is a "belt" with a total twist of 540 degrees before its two ends are joined.
Part Description and Generator Specs
"Other Scherk-Collins Toroids"
Part Descriptions and Generator Specs
"Minimum Variation Surfaces"
The genus 2 through 5 surfaces of a particular symmetry group
that minimize the surface integral over the square of the derivative of curvature.
Need to generate the properly optimized surface descriptions -- perhaps as subdivision surfaces...
