I was born at Agra, a historically important city in Northern India. It is the home of the magnificent Taj Mahal. My parents now live in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. My father works for the Geological Survey of India. My mother is a member of Bharat Vikas Parishad, a social organization.

My brother, Anuj Tewari, is doing his undergraduate studies at DA-IICT Gandhinagar. Working with the indefatigable Matt Kam, he has developed an interest in HCI (Human Computer Interaction). Their work on designing language learning software for underdeveloped regions was presented at CHI 2007. Believe it or not, he finds time to write poetry: here's a recent Hindi poem that I especially like.

Initially, I studied at Saint Francis de Sales High School at Nagpur. My parents moved to Lucknow in mid-1991. At Lucknow, I studied at Saint Fidelis College and took the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education and Indian School Certificate Examinations in 1996 and 1998 respectively.

My undergraduate studies were completed in the Computer Science and Engineering Department at Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.
