Slav Petrov

I am a fourth year PhD Student in Computer Science at UC Berkeley. I am working on Computer Vision with Jitendra Malik and Natural Language Processing (NLP) with Dan Klein. The unifying theme of my research is 'inducing latent structure for perception', for more details see my thesis proposal on studying the fascinating problem of child language acqusition or the slides from my Qualificational Examination (Quals). Lately I have been working on parsing and speech recognition.
Prior to Berkeley I spent a year as an exchange student at Duke University where I worked with Carlo Tomasi on gesture recognition. My Master's degree is from the Free University of Berlin where I was part of the team that won the world championship in robotic soccer under the supervision of Raul Rojas.
