I am a final year PhD Student in Computer Science at UC Berkeley. My research focus is in Natural Language Processing (NLP), but I am also interested in Computer Vision and Machine Learning. My advisor is Dan Klein, and here is an article about current projects in NLP at Berkeley. Among other things, I have worked on syntactic parsing and speech recognition. Currently I am most interested in leveraging syntax in machine translation to produce grammatical translations. Here is a video from a talk about some of my parsing work.
I once wrote a thesis proposal on studying the fascinating problem of child language acqusition. Here are the slides from my Qualificational Examination (Quals). Prior to Berkeley I spent a year as an exchange student at Duke University where I worked with Carlo Tomasi on gesture recognition. My Master's degree is from the Free University of Berlin where I was part of the team that won the RoboCup world championship in robotic soccer under the supervision of Raul Rojas.
I grew in Berlin, Germany but I am originally from Sofia, Bulgaria. I therefore consider myself a Berliner from Bulgaria. Whenever Bulgaria plays Germany in soccer I support Bulgaria.
