Students take self-paced courses because they either want to spread their studies over more than one semester or take enrichment courses which are taught on a tutorial basis rather than with a lecture format; in either case, full credits are earned for self-paced courses.

HKN provides online exams. You can check out EE exams from 290 Cory and CS exams from 345 Soda, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Commuter Students

The Cal Commuter website is an online resource that allows commuter students to find information pertaining to commuter-specific needs, services, and questions including: getting to and parking on campus, finding housing, campus activities and events, and useful services.

Computing and Email

Every new EECS student should apply for an email account through the EECS Instructional Support Group. Via your email address, which will be listed on BearFacts, you will receive email regarding important departmental matters (such as TeleBears deadlines, etc). Information on accessing email, departmental computers, and course listings is also available at this site. Of particular interest is Information for New Users.

Course Surveys

HKN compiles Course Surveys for all undergraduate and graduate level EECS courses (professors and TAs included) based on student feedback.

Employment

Recruiting Infosessions

A number of corporations partner with the EECS Department through the Industrial Liaison Program (ILP). They have a unique benefit of interacting with EECS students through recruiting infosessions held in Cory and Soda Halls.

Internships

The EECS Internship Program places top Berkeley EE and CS majors in competitive and challenging summer assignments in industry. The program is a joint effort between industrial representatives and Berkeley the EECS Industrial and Public Relations Office. (IPRO) While the program has an electrical engineering and computer science focus, it is open to University of California, Berkeley graduate and undergraduate students in any field.

ERSO Administrative Services

Cory Hall/Soda Hall

Your faculty advisor's administrative assistant or grant administrator is available to assist you with items such as ordering equipment, preparing travel vouchers, check reimbursements, and any other paperwork related to account funds, equipment, and space-related issues. Examples of things students are expected to do for themselves are photcopying and faxing. To get supplies, speak to your research advisor's administrative assistant. Not all faculty have the same procedures.

NOTE: If there is no administrative assistant for a faculty member, talk to him or her directly. Also, if you have a unique situation that isn't addressed above, ask your research advisor for more information. If you have additional questions, contact Cindy Kennon (642-0479, ckennon@erso) (Electronics Research Support Organization) at 643-8423.

Student Grievance Procedure: The Berkeley campus Student Grievance Procedure (Appendix II to the Berkeley Campus Regulations Implementing University Policies) gives you an opportunity to resolve complaints alleging discrimination based on race, color, national origin, sex, handicap, age, and sexual orientation. You may also use the procedure to resolve any complaints you may have alleging that any other rules or policies of the Berkeley campus were inappropriately applied and resulted in an injury to you. The procedure is not applicable to certain kinds of complaints for which other appropriate appeals procedures exist, such as a grade appeal based on the application of nonacademic criteria. (See Appeal of Grades in Courses and Examinations for a description of the grade appeal process). The procedure contains important time limitations and provisions about the interrelationship between this procedure and other campus complaint procedures. Copies of the procedure are available in 102 Sproul Hall.

Public Printers

Please Note: Most printers in Cory and Soda Halls are NOT publically available (i.e. should not be used by students). Please only use the printers listed below.

Cory Hall

There are no public printers in Cory Hall at this time. The instructional printers located on the 2nd floor of Cory Hall are maintained by IESG (inst@eecs).

Soda Hall

There are public printers in 384, 510 and 730 Soda Hall (lws384, lws510 & lws730).

For paper/toner problems contact printers@cs.
For job cancellations: users can do a kerberized or ssh login to machine huginn.CS, and from there do a "cancel [id]" where id is the print job id which may be determined using the "lpstat" command. If the printer is disabled, the "/usr/bin/enable printers" command may be used to re-enable the named printers.
For other problems, contact printers@cs.
For problems with private printers in Soda Hall, users should contact their local system administrator.

The Industrial and Public Relations Office produces a Graduate Student Résumé Directory for all current EECS graduate students. The goal of the directory is to benefit both students and employers by helping to match job opportunities with students' areas of expertise.
