Brian A. Barsky

Professor of Computer Science and Vision Science, at the University of California, Berkeley
Affiliate Professor of Optometry, at the University of California, Berkeley
Member of the Joint Graduate Group in Bioengineering, between UC Berkeley and UC San Francisco

On Friday morning, 20 Nov. 2009, I photographed my colleague Robert Dudley, Professor of Integrative Biology, being led into Wheeler Hall by our UC police where he was held handcuffed for about two hours. Several colleagues witnessed the police tackle him from behind and throw him forcibly onto the ground.

(The photograph captures the further irony that the professor is imprisoned underneath the sign for the "Big Game" -- just two weeks prior, the faculty passed a resolution called "Academics First!" urging the Chancellor to restore educational funding priorities after a group of faculty discovered that Intercollegiate Athletics has never paid back any of its accumulated a debt to campus that is higher than the $150 million shortfall in this year's state funding to Berkeley.)
