  • There is plenty of space in lecture, so as long as you are willing to attend a section that is not filled up, you should be able to register.
  • Homework Assignments

  • (12/16) Corrections have been posted to answers for Homework 12.
  • (12/5) The last homework will be due Monday, Dec 10, the last day of class.
  • (11/2) There will be no homework due or quiz on Nov 7, the day of the 2nd midterm.
  • (9/16) The 3rd homework is due on Wednesday, 9/19, in section as usual. It had been erroneously posted as due 9/18.

  • Examinations

  • (12/17) The final exam will be Wednesday, Dec 19, 5-8pm, in 4 LeConte.
  • (12/17) For the final, you will be allowed 2 double-sided sheets (4 pages) of notes that can be read without a magnifying glass.

  • (11/2) The 2nd midterm will cover everything since the first midterm, through the material covered on Homework Assignment 9, i.e. through the end of section 5.4 in the text.

  • (9/27) We found an error in the posted answer to question 3.2, and posted a correction. If you feel you may deserve more points for question 3.2, please give the exam to your TA as soon as possible.
  • (9/27) The histogram of Midterm 1 scores, and an approximate letter grading scheme have been posted.
  • (9/21) The location of the Friday review session has been changed to 70 Evans. The time is the same.
  • (9/19) There will be 2 review sessions for the first midterm: Friday, 9/21, from 5:30-7:30 in 7 Evans, and Sunday, 9/23, from 3:00-5:00 in 3 Evans.
  • Midterm 1 will be in class on Monday, Sept 24.
  • Midterm 2 will be in class on Wednesday, Nov 7.
  • The final will be Wednesday, Dec 19, 5-8pm.
  • The same rules will apply as for all exams: closed book, closed calculator, closed computer, closed network, open brain. We will permit one page of notes (double sided), that can be read without a magnifying glass, to be brought to midterms. Details will be announced later.

  • (12/3) Course Evaluations (of the instructor and GSIs) will be done in section on 12/5.
  • These are supplementary notes on the Halting Problem by W. Kahan, in pdf.
  • The textbook "Discrete Mathematics and its Applications" by Kenneth Rosen has a website containing supplementary material, animations of various algorithms, and so on, although this is still just for the 5th edition.
  • These are supplementary notes on Probability Theory by Hendrik Lenstra that were used in previous offerings of Math 55, in postscript or PDF.
