Executed sample notebooks for PDEase2D 3.0 . Postscript and MS-Word files for the product documentation for Macsyma and PDEase2D. Installation ============ - PC Installation: You can select a PC product to install and start its installation procedure by running install.exe in the top-level directory on the CD-ROM. You may install any of the demonstration programs, and we encourage you to pass the demonstration programs along to your associates. You may install the full versions of Macsyma and PDEase2D for which you are licensed. The software on this CD-ROM is covered by a license agreement which accompanies the CD-ROM. Professional and Lite versions of the products require security keys or a license to activate them. Please read your installation guide for instructions on how to obtain the key for the software which you are licensed to install. - UNIX Installation: 1) Read the file "readme.txt" for brief installation instructions. 2) Read the file "install.ps" for more detailed installation instructions. 2) Run the installation script "install.sh". Contents ======== - CDREADME.TXT --- This file. - install.sh --- UNIX install script - install.ps --- Detailed UNIX installation instructions. - install.exe --- The Windows 95/98/NT installation program. - readme.txt --- Brief UNIX installation instructions. - docs directory --- Contains PostScript and MS-Word documentation for Macsyma and PDEase. - unix directory --- Contains the Unix versions of Macsyma. Also has the license-request script "licreq.sh". - win32 directory --- Contains the Windows 95/98/NT versions of Macsyma. ============================================================== The use of this software is regulated by the license agreement which accompanies the CD-ROM. YOU CANNOT USE THIS SOFTWARE WITHOUT A LICENSE OR A KEY! Please read the file "readme.txt" for instructions on how to obtain a UNIX license. If you have bought the PC product, you should have been sent an authorization key with the product. ============================================================== About the Software ================== Macsyma ------- Macsyma(R) is an integrated mathematics software product which combines symbolic and numerical mathematics and scientific graphics with interactive scientific notebooks and batch programming. Macsyma is renowned for on-line help and ease of use: topic browser, MathTips(tm) Advisor, hypertext descriptions, executable demonstrations, command templates, context-sensitive help. Besides the algebra, calculus and data analysis in all high-end math packages, Macsyma has many unique features. Macsyma has more numerical-symbolic linear algebra than any other product. Macsyma has the most tools for solving differential equations symbolically, numerically and with perturbation methods. Macsyma's scientific notebooks combine full text processing, in-place editable graphics, textbook quality math display, and hypertext links within and between notebooks. Macsyma's FORTRAN and C code generators can translate math expressions, iteration loops, conditional branch statements and function calls and definitions. PDEase2D -------- PDEase2D(tm) solves a wide range of engineering and scientific problems by finite element analysis. It solves (non)linear systems of partial differential equations with unprecedented ease, including static, dynamic and eigenvalue problems. PDEase generates and refines grids, performs error analysis and selects time steps. It includes 160+ executable samples of solved problems involving stress analysis, heat transfer, fluids, magnetostatics, reaction/diffusion, option pricing, vibration and acoustics. You can rotate, annotate or even animate scientific graphics with PDEase2D 3.0. PDEase2D has a simple input language which avoids the need to specify finite element meshes, unless you wish to override default behavior of the adaptive automatic mesh generator. PDEase2D 3.0 runs on Intel PCs with Windows 95/98/NT. PDEase 2.5.7 runs on SPARC workstations with SunOS 4.1.3 or Solaris 2.3+.
