The Making of "Geri's Game"

"Geri's game," Pixar's recently completed Academy Award nominated short film, is the story of an aging codger named Geri who plays chess in the park. Geri plays against himself and somehow manages to win every game -- even if it means cheating! Directed by Jan Pinkava, "Geri's game" marks Pixar's return to the tradition begun with "Luxo Jr." of using short-film production to drive research and development. In this presentation I will screen the film, summarize how digitial films are made, and highlight the two main technical innovations behind Geri's game: the use of subdivision surfaces and simulated cloth dynamics.
