ASPLOS Wild and Crazy Idea Session '98 | ||

The call for submissions to the ASPLOS Wild and
Crazy Idea Session was wildly successful. There were 42 submissions
that arrived in a span of less than a month.
Unfortunately, there were only eight time slots. This means that this session had a lower acceptance rate than the conference itself! This unfortunate inversion was forced by time limits. The great outpouring of interest in a new ideas session clearly reflects a need in the systems community. | |

Ideally, we would have had time for many more of the submissions. There were many good ideas. Given the constraints of the session, some of the more radical proposals (from a programming model or implementation standpoint) were given precidence over others. This in no way limits the worth of the other proposals. If fact, there were so many good proposals, that we have chosen to publish all of them here, in PDF format. Note that, of the 42 submissions, only 3 authors declined the oportunity for their ideas to be included in this collection. So, without further ado, here is a menu of choices: My sincere gratitude to all who submitted proposals to this session! It is my hope that longer "Wild and Crazy Ideas" sessions (or workshops) may appear in the future.
