CS258: Reading Assignment #23

The reading assignment for Wednesday for CS 258 is to read the following two papers:
  1. The Expandable Split Window Paradigm for Exploiting Fine-Grain Parallelism,  M. Franklin and G. S. Sohi. In Proceedings 19th International Symposium on Computer Architecture (ISCA-19), 1992.
  2. Data Speculation Support for a Chip Multiprocessor. Lance Hammond, Mark Willey, and Kunle Olukotun. In Proceedings of the 8th ACM Conference on Architectural Support for Programming Languages and Operating Systems (ASPLOS), 1998.
Write one paragraph about each of these papers. You should briefly summarize the arguments, then  describe your opinions on and reactions to the issues introduced in the papers.
