Figure 1. Organization of the Executive Office of the President
The EOP consists of approximately 1400 staff members who directly support
the President and Vice President. The Office of Management and Budget is
the largest single agency. Numerous groups are responsible for developing
policy in support of the Administration's initiatives. The Office of the
Vice President had one of the more sophisticated computer set-ups, even
before Vice President Gore resided in the office. This was in part due to
the financial resources available to the Vice President through his constitutional
role as President Pro Tem of the Senate. The Computer Center is found in
the Office of Administration, the same administrative unit that includes
the messengers and staff drivers.
