UIST '98 Student Volunteer Information
This year's UIST Student Volunteers have already been chosen and notified. If you
are an SV, look here for up-to-date information. If you are not an SV, but would like
to be put on the waiting list, see the SV Request Form below.
Benefits and Duties
If you are a UIST Student Volunteer, you get...
All you need to do is help us set-up the conference and
do needed work during the conference. There will be at
most 10 hours of work for each of the volunteers to do.
This year, there are a limited number of volunteers that can commute
to the conference from their homes. These students will not receive
housing at the conference and will be asked to work half the hours of
the other volunteers.
Registration and Housing
All student Volunteers need to fill out the
UIST Registration Form as student volunteers. If this form does not
have a special slot for student volunteers, simly register as a student
and ignore the registration fees.
Each SV that gets a room should also choose a roommate from the list of
student volunteers (mailed to you), and send your choice to
Richard Davis (rcdavis@cs.berkeley.edu). If you have no preference,
let Richard know, and he will put you in touch with a potential roommate.
Once you have chosen a roommate, you'll be told how to reserve your hotel room.
Remember, the hotel reservation deadline is September 29, 1998, so you
should probably choose your roommate by September 22 or so.
When to Arrive and Leave
When you arrive at the conference is somewhat flexible, but you should try
to be at the Fairmont Hotel by around 2:00 PM on Sunday, 11/1 (place TBA).
If you can come earlier, notify Richard Davis (rcdavis@cs.berkeley.edu),
and you may be able to work some of your hours before the conference starts.
When you leave is also flexible, but you should try to plan it so you
don't leave the hotel until sessions end at 5:15 PM on Wednesday. Also,
we strongly encourage you to put off leaving until as late as you possibly can,
because it's traditional to have a small party for SVs after UIST.
The time and place for this party will be announced when we know all the
SVs' travel plans.
