These portraits are dedicated to the very people who inspired them---my mom and my closest friends---for their tireless endurance of all my quirks and fits of bad humor.   Special thanks to the models shown here: Yoshi, Jeff, Yukari, Kaori, and the many strangers whom I troubled at Cornell and in the town of Ithaca.
