Goal:
To use information technology to address serious societal challenges -
an addiction to dirty energy and global
climate change. My broad academic interests are in networks and
distributed systems. Much of my work involves applications of sensor
networks, an interesting intersection of these two areas.
Currently:

School-Unrelated Interests:
Traveling. I have lofty aspirations to travel the
world which I will (likely) never meet, but dreaming is always fun.
There's been some whirlwind Europe getaways, Latin American adventures
in Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Peru, trips to India for both pleasure
and work, and many *random* excursions
around the USA. One goal is to eventually visit all 50 states - the
current toll is 44 out of the 50,
but no current plans to visit any of the remaining states.
The Pursuit of Knowledge. Knowledge isn't always
school-related. I enjoy reading about economics, geography, history,
sociology, politics, entrepreneurship, marketing, inane trivia, and so
much more. I love learning; I am perpetually curious.
Sports. I have always enjoyed being both a
competitor in and a spectator of a number of sports. My obsessions are
with college football (Ohio State will do this to you), soccer (have
played my entire life), and the Red Sox (baseball as a whole is
sometimes interesting too). In general, I keep up on most sports - even
golf, hockey, and cycling.
Food. In the past, I organized (pseudo-)weekly
outings to go to new restaurants with many friends. This was
intelligently called the "Restaurant of the Week" club. My exploratory
nature manifests in my policy of never going to the same restaurant
twice (unless it absolutely rocks). I also very much enjoy cooking, and
Berkeley is a great place for experimentation.
Family. I have two ridiculously cute nephews. Aidan
Joel Taneja was born on November 1st, 2005, and Sam Charles Taneja was
born on April 17th, 2008; both currently reside in
Twinsburg, Ohio. They are precious.
Friends. To be honest, who doesn't love their
friends?
