CS267: Lecture 4
Shared Memory Multiprocessors
September 10, 2001
Lecturer: Kathy Yelick
Abstract
We start with a short history of parallel machines and the introduction of key
features, such as the cache. We describe shared memory machines in some
detail, including a basic overview cache coherence protocols. We look at
bus-based architectures, distributed shared memory machines, and global address
space machines. We look at some specific shared memory machines that
represent each of these classes, including the Origin 2000 and the Cray t3e.
